As the effects of a severe recession loom large, Shelter estimates that around 1.7 million renters expect to lose their job and Citizens Advice estimates that 2.6 million renters expect to fall behind on rent. So what is the plan to support tenants now?

This session will explore the government interventions and welfare reforms needed to support tenants through the crisis. Plus, what practical strategies are landlords adopting? What can we learn from other countries and how they are protecting their renters?

The discussion will also include a perspective from the charity Turn2Us who will address the issue of appliance poverty, which has been exacerbated during the pandemic. Turn2Us will explore the impact on tenants of living without essential appliances and what landlords can do to help tackle the problem.
