As housing professionals, it’s our mission to make sure that everyone has a great place to call home in a thriving community. Fundamentally, we are in the business of providing safe, good-quality, affordable homes. Remember that you can do more for people in one day than most professionals can achieve in a whole career – so we must use that influence to its greatest extent. That’s why professionalism is so important. Being an effective housing professional means having the right knowledge, skills, behaviours, values and ethics – and that you can be trusted by the tenants and communities you serve. Following the Grenfell Tower tragedy, the competencies of professionals has been called into question. Last year’s Green Paper talked about “encouraging professionalism”. So, what does this mean in practice?
