The rights of migrants and new arrivals to the UK to access housing and get help with their rent from benefits are often poorly understood by social landlords. The law is complicated and changes frequently with the result that migrants are often denied access to services they are entitled to. This session will seek to identify some of the common misconceptions that many social landlords make. The aim is to give you a good overview of the rights of migrants with different kinds of status such as refugees, people with limited leave, European Union nationals and people who are made destitute by the ‘hostile environment’.
