“I don’t believe a terrorist is born. Something happens to them."

Figen Murray is the mother of Martyn Hett, who was one of 22 people killed in the Manchester Arena bombing on 22 May 2017.

She knew nothing about terrorism at the time but her determination to understand it led her to campaign for  Martyn’s Law - a consistent set of rules to protect the public from terrorist attacks.

She also recently graduated with a Master’s degree in counter-terrorism, gives talks in schools on the dangers of radicalisation and was awarded an OBE in 2022 for her services to counterterrorism.

In this interview, Figen will discuss the power of forgiveness, breaking the cycle of hate and anger and how we as a country can remain resilient to the threat of terrorism.
