Unlock Net Zero Live stage

The housing sector faces the dual challenge of building new low carbon homes at pace and scale, whilst ensuring existing homes are retrofitted to reach the UK Government’s target of net zero emissions by 2050. Alongside, lowering energy bills and improving health and wellbeing provisions for tenants and residents is an urgent priority during the cost of living crisis.

To build the foundations of net zero we need action, we need urgency, we need solutions at scale, and we need to learn from doing.

The Unlock Net Zero Live stage will bring together a core audience of influencers from local authorities, housing organisations, consultancies and the supply chain to find the solutions in the practical transition to a low carbon future. The stage will identify the technologies, infrastructure and behaviour change required to enact lasting change and ensure the sector reaches net zero emissions by 2050.

Discussions will be centred around the following questions and insights:

  • How are housing associations incorporating net zero into business plans, and funding the necessary costs to decarbonise homes?
  • How can we address the disconnect between the need for more roles in construction, retrofit and energy, and the shortage of skills?
  • Tackling zero carbon, fuel poverty and disrepair through strategic asset management
  • Addressing overheating, flood risk and biodiversity loss to create and maintain climate resilient homes and communities
  • What is the current flow of government policy and regulations? Looking at the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, the heat and buildings strategy, and the energy-efficiency taskforce
  • Transforming lives through affordable green technology: from heat pumps to solar panels to EV charging infrastructure
  • Tackling climate change together with tenants and residents: engagement strategies, education programmes, and two-way dialogue
  • Collaborating to achieve more: scaling up new build delivery, funding bids, training opportunities and routes to procurement
