With a rise in homelessness among those leaving prison in recent years, there is an urgent need for investment in specialist support and housing.
Leaving prison homeless increases the chance of reoffending and reduces hope of rehabilitation. This session will explore how we can ensure that no-one leaves prison without a home to go to, giving people the best chance to get a job, rebuild relationships and play a part in their local communities.
Hear from those with lived experience about the challenges and anxiety that people face when they leave prison with uncertain release arrangements.
How can we better engage and support prison leavers to access secure housing and sustain their tenancies? How can we create a sense of community and support by those who best understand the struggles and trauma they may have faced?
We’ll explore the accommodation models that are proving safe and affordable and the role of partnerships with agencies. Ultimately, hear expert recommendations on the policy and practical changes that will make the biggest difference to lives.
