In recent years Inside Housing research has stated about 50% of all housing association new homes were delivered through Section 106 but it is hard to find anyone that really champions this planning mechanism. From poor doors to exclusion for social housing residents from communal areas, we have seen many negative headlines in the media. Private developers are not keen either, blaming it for many scheme’s lack of viability. So, if not Section 106, what is it, what partnerships are needed, and who benefits?
