The north can get somewhat dreamy-eyed when they speak of the Housing Market Renewal Pathfinders from 2002-2011. Supporters claimed it renewed areas for homes and reconnected people to the area, detractors said it led to ‘class-cleansing’. But there is no disagreement that town centres, at the very least, are needing to repurpose themselves. And could private rented homes that fail to meet basic standards be moved into the social housing sector? This session will explore how we can ‘reuse and repurpose’ to regenerate and build more homes to meet housing need.
