In partnership with a number of social housing providers, law firm Shakespeare Martineau has developed and launched an online tenant survey to capture the attitudes and understanding of social housing tenants towards energy saving technology and retrofitting. They are now calling on housing providers to share the anonymous survey with their tenants.
This research is of particular importance following on from the news that government is consulting on revised directions to the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) that aim to increase tenant involvement and engagement, with the first new proposed direction, requiring social landlords to “consider tenants’ views” when making decisions relating to housing management.
Shakespeare Martineau is asking for support in sharing the survey with social housing tenants via email, newsletters or customer hubs. It is important not to fill in the survey if you are not a social housing tenant as this will skew the data. For tenants there is an added incentive of an Amazon voucher prize draw to take the survey (please note - all data processing will meet strict GDPR rules and only be used to pick a winner – after that it will be destroyed)
A brief description and link to the survey can be found below:
Take our survey and be in with the chance to win Amazon vouchers
Working with other social housing providers across the country we would like you to take this anonymous survey to share your thoughts about energy saving technology in the home.
The survey should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete and you can enter an optional prize draw to win one of three Amazon vouchers.
You have until 11 June 2023 to enter.

The data will be collected over the next six weeks, with the overall cumulative findings being made available publicly in late summer with the aim to help inform housing providers engagement with tenants based on genuine, national feedback.
The data that will be shared will be cumulative, but there will also be the opportunity for providers to request individual provider results for their use only.
The cumulative results will be discussed at a roundtable at Housing 2023, Europe’s largest housing festival where housing providers and experts, through collaboration, will address some of these misconceptions/ barriers and create workable solutions that can be adopted across the social housing sector. This project will be written up into a report, due to launch in September.
