Thought leader interview with Samantha Grix

What will be the biggest issue you hope to hear more on at Housing 2023?

The housing sector has been under the spotlight for a number of years now and change and reforms have been coming thick and fast, the most recent being the Renters Reform Bill. I hope to hear from, and talk to other sector colleagues about how they are managing these changes, what obstacles they foresee and their innovative ways of dealing with the business and operational challenges in light of the cost of living crisis.

What will you be speaking about in your session?

I am speaking at the Masterclass on domestic abuse which is at 9.30am on 29 June (don’t miss it!). The session will address regulator requirements that are due to be implemented and I have no doubt it will be an interesting and insightful session given the breath of experience of the panel.

Tell us a question for the Secretary of State

Recently there have been a significant number of changes in the requirements and obligations upon the Housing Sector with a number of these being brought into place with short notice. The consequence of this is that registered providers are having to deal with increased requirements, but do not necessarily have the funding or operational capability in place to support them. How can the sector secure greater engagement with you and your team to bring about consistency in the obligations and targets, with a managed approach to need changes that come with such an evolving sector?

What are you most looking forward to?

Housing 2023 will be a great opportunity to hear from sector professionals and commentators, as well catch up with clients and contacts. I hope to make some new contacts along the way too.

Name us the housing speaker of your dreams and why?

I always like to hear from the Regulator as this provides an insight into what they are focusing on, which in turn helps when I am advising clients.

Why is it vital the whole sector has a place to meet each year?

Meeting in one place to discuss the issues of the time is invaluable. It creates a forum to share and come up with new ideas and make new contact which benefits the individuals but also the sector.
