Thought leader interview with Paul Bridge

Paul Bridge, Chief executive, social housing at Civitas
Paul Bridge, Chief executive, social housing at Civitas

What will be the biggest issue you hope to hear more on at Housing 2022?

It’s all about people in every possible respect. How we prioritise housing people with no home or in terrible conditions. How in the pandemic recovery period we galvanise and capture the momentum to house the homeless. Mental health and the stress and appalling health outcomes leading from poor housing. How standards need to be focused on people and how the sector will respond to this challenge.

What will you be speaking about in your session?

I am speaking at several sessions one about mental health and housing and one about how to prioritise community housing for those with a learning disability. I will also be speaking about the responsible uses of equity in the sector.

Tell us a question for the Secretary of State?

What do you need from the sector to achieve the levelling up agenda?

What are you most looking forward to?

I always look forward to this conference as its very well organised and essentially all key parties attend. I most enjoy sharing and hearing ideas and being stimulated by this.

Name the housing speaker of your dreams and why?

I would like to hear from the late Octavia Hill and her modern day equivalent Professor Anne Power who taught me many years ago at the LSE the lessons of not placing people and communities first during the slum clearance programmes. This inspired me to lead are scale regeneration schemes with people first.

Why is it vital the whole sector has a place to meet each year?

Ideas, energy, a catalyst for change having fun!
